How to Add Google Reviews to Shopify

Step-by-step guide to importing Google Business reviews into your Shopify store and displaying them with widgets.

Many Shopify merchants already have strong Google Business Profile reviews—but Shopify does not show them on your storefront by default. Shoppers who want social proof leave your site, search your brand on Google, and may never return.
You do not need to copy reviews into images or hire a developer. A Google reviews app can connect your Google Business location, sync reviews automatically, and let you place a widget with the Shopify Theme Editor.
This guide walks through how to add Google Reviews to Shopify—from connecting your business profile to publishing a review section on your store.
Why Shopify does not show Google Reviews by default
Shopify is built for ecommerce: catalogues, checkout, and fulfilment. Google Business reviews live on Google Maps and your Google Business Profile. There is no native bridge between the two.
That gap creates familiar problems:
- New stores show empty product review sections even when the business has hundreds of Google ratings.
- Shoppers open another tab to check “your brand + reviews” before buying.
- Manual copy-and-paste testimonials go stale as new Google reviews arrive.

Importing Google Reviews into Shopify closes that gap and keeps trust on your storefront.
What you’ll need
Before you start, make sure you have:
- A Shopify store with admin access to install apps
- A Google Business Profile with reviews (or a listing you can connect)
- Permission to edit your theme (Online Store 2.0 themes work best with app blocks)
- A few minutes to place and preview a widget
Step 1: Install a Google Reviews app
Search the Shopify App Store for a Google review importer—such as Google Reviews Importer.
- Open the app listing and click Install.
- Approve the permissions so the app can run inside Shopify Admin.
- Open the app from your Apps list and follow the onboarding steps.
Most merchants can complete install and first publish in under 30 minutes.
Step 2: Connect your Google Business Profile
In the app, search for your business by name or address, then select the correct Google location.

Double-check the listing carefully. Duplicate profiles, old addresses, and similar business names are common—importing the wrong place means you display someone else’s reviews.
Once connected, the app fetches reviews for that location. You can usually:
- Let background sync keep reviews fresh
- Trigger a manual sync when you want an immediate refresh

Step 3: Curate what shoppers will see
Before you publish a widget, open the reviews inbox and review what will appear on your store.
Useful curation options include:
- Filtering by star rating
- Showing only reviews that include written comments
- Hiding spam, irrelevant, or off-brand reviews (and restoring them later if needed)

Google’s rules still apply: you should not rewrite or fabricate reviews. Curation means choosing what to display on your storefront—not altering review text.
Step 4: Add a review widget in the Theme Editor
For Online Store 2.0 themes:
- Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- Open the template where you want reviews (homepage, product page, landing page, etc.).
- Add an app block for Google Reviews.

- Choose a layout such as grid, list, masonry, slider, or carousel (availability may depend on your plan).
- Adjust colours, fonts, review count, minimum rating, and badges so the widget matches your theme.

- Save and preview on desktop and mobile.
Widgets can sit on the homepage, product templates, collection pages, landing pages, or the footer—wherever shoppers decide to trust you.
Step 5: Publish and test
After saving the theme:
- Open your live storefront (or a preview link).
- Confirm the correct business name and reviews appear.

- Check mobile layout—most traffic is on phones.
- Confirm hidden reviews do not show.
- If you use product-page keyword filtering, visit a product and verify only relevant reviews appear.
If the widget is empty, recheck the Google connection, sync status, minimum-rating filters, and whether reviews were hidden by mistake.
Tips for better results
- Start on the homepage — a trust section above or below the fold reduces early bounce for new visitors.
- Add product pages next — use keyword filtering so business reviews feel relevant to each product.
- Keep reviews fresh — rely on automatic sync instead of static screenshots from last year.
- Match your brand — a widget that clashes with your theme looks bolted on and lowers trust.
- Pair with product reviews — Google Reviews prove business reputation; product reviews answer product-specific questions. See Google Reviews vs product reviews on Shopify.
How long does setup take?
Most merchants can install the app, connect a Google Business Profile, hide a few unwanted reviews, and publish a homepage widget in under 30 minutes. No theme code is required when you use Online Store 2.0 app blocks.
